This past week has been hands down the best of my summer so far. Beyonce with my worldies and then off to Amsterdam for one of my best friends birthday. I have always wanted to go to Amsterdam and my hope were high which can sometimes be a tad damaging. However the city was amazing. So beautiful and unlike any city I have ever seen before. We were so lucky with weather and all had an all round hilarious time.
Day One: Our flight left Bristol at 6am (ew) and landed at 8am Amsterdam time. We got a bus into the centre and then went on a wild goose chase to find our hostel. Thankfully it was right in the centre two streets away from the Red Light district. We then wondered around the city for a little bit before heading to an Irish bar to drink jugs of Heineken. Once we were sufficiently hydrated we went on to start our cultural journey. It was also Lisa's birthday on this day so we played some classic beverage games and headed out to a really cool bar/ club called Cafe de Paris which served some dazzling mojitos.

Day Two: This day was bloody hilarious and beautiful. After a decent start with a fry up and fresh mint tea, which is standard in Ammy we spent our morning by the canal outside some coffee shops. The sun was high as a kite and we tried to cram in all the sights, i.e the classic Amsterdam sign to get the new cover photo sorted. The highlight was by far a boat trip down the canal by a sound Ammy guy, it was a BYOB situation which ended at a stunning and unique bar. Our friend James turned up and we all got excited for our second night out, this time we headed to the Gay scene which was obviously so much fun.

Day Three: After a decidedly later start we hired bikes. THIS IS A MUST DO. The city is perfect for riding a bike on and off the road by the canals. A slightly shaky start as the bikes didn't have normal breaks on the handle bars. Lots of giggles and sun, before chilling in the sun. We then decided to go to an Ice Bar. Somehow not one of the eight of us considered the fact it was going to be VERY cold in there. Oh golly was it cold. We got given coats and gloves but thank goodness drinks were included. It was incredible in there though, quite small but huge ice sculptures and cups made out of ice and the nicest Nutella vodka. Get a beer as your first drink as you then get poured pints of all the other drinks. Top Tip there.

Day Four: Our last day and it was a bit drizzly, we checked out and wondered around, obviously went to the Museum of Prostitution as Amsterdam is famous for certain 'relaxed' laws. The museum was interesting and slightly disturbing but also had a lot of tongue in cheek humour. Following this we ate some renowned crepes and waffles which were so indulgent and delicious. Then it was off to the Airport and home. Was very sad the leave the bunch of nutters, but as we all work together I can't say i was too sad as I'll see them tomorrow back in normal life, yay. At least we can reminisce over all the banter that was head, I'll have to apologise in advance to our co-workers #sorrynotsorry.

Where we stayed: Extremely budget, but central and did the job: Whit Tulip Hostel
Lets talk about the Red Light District: So prostitution is legal in Ammy and so although this street is bizarre and kind of creepy it is still interesting. Have a gander down in during the evening just to see what it is about and you will see what I mean.
Next time: ANNE FRANKS HOUSE! Gutted I didn't get to go here but the queues were cray cray, book well in advance before your trip...well in advance.
Windmills: So Holland is famous for windmills and there are pretty beautiful, I would love to go and see some and find out more about them next time... there will be a next time.
